ME1 Tong Yi Ling, 23, Air Force Engineer, 815 SQN

During her spare time, Air Force Engineer Military Expert (ME) 1 Tong Yi Ling voluntarily locks herself in rooms all over Singapore — and sometimes even Malaysia — just so she and her friends can figure a way out of them. She is an avid fan of Escape Rooms, a team-based game where players cooperate to solve puzzles in order to exit a series of rooms.

Her search for adventure has also led her to the digital realm. She is a fan of video games such as Defense of The Ancients and League of Legends. "These games require you to know your enemy’s movement and involve a lot of teamwork."

Her interest in team challenges make her well suited to be an engineer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force, where she maintains the electrical and flight control systems of F-16 fighter jets.

"My seniors are always nurturing and patient when teaching me. I want to be like them one day, leading my juniors and teaching them what my seniors taught me."
