Whether it's running, heading to the gym to work out, or taking part in sports like netball, badminton or mixed martial arts, SAFVC Volunteer (SV) 1 Fadilah has always been an active person who enjoys a challenge. She has even competed in half-marathons.

"It's a stress reliever and my coping mechanism - whenever I feel stressed, tired or bored, I go out and exercise."

It was the search for a challenge that led the 26-year-old staff nurse at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital to join the Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) after finishing her nursing degree at the National University of Singapore two years ago.

An Auxiliary Security Trooper, SV1 Fadilah has helped to man access points during key events like SAF Day Parades, and taken part in security screening duties. She has also helped to publicise the scheme by doing community outreach and giving talks, including at her alma mater St Andrew's Junior College.

She credits her father for her desire to be in service. "My father always talks about how we should contribute back to society and that life is about serving the people. I'm passionate and genuinely want to make an impact and touch people's lives."

For more from SV1 Fadilah, read her Comment piece here.
