The enhanced Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) system makes it easier for NSmen to raise and sustain their fitness.

Starting from 1 Apr this year, Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) were given a leg up in meeting their IPPT requirements. The revamped system took into account feedback from NSmen and fitness training science and the key change was that NSmen have to attempt the IPPT within nine months of their birthday.

Should they fail, they will have three months to complete their 20 flexible Remedial Training (RT) sessions, instead of the 20 fixed sessions over a period of two months under the previous system.

The IPPT Preparatory Training (IPT) programme was also enhanced to make it more flexible and easier for NSmen to progressively build their fitness.

Those who opt for the voluntary IPT now have up to nine months to complete the 10-session performance-based programme. Previously, NSmen going for IPT had only five weeks to complete 10 sessions.

Sounds complicated? Here's an FAQ.

I did it!

NSmen share their success stories with the enhanced NS IPPT system. Looks like IPT is shaping up to be a favourite with NSmen looking for help to pass their IPPT!

LCP (NS) Ng Yeow Hian, 30
- 428 SAR

"I signed up for IPT to improve my fitness and eventually passed my IPPT. The new IPT system of having personalised PPTs makes my training easier and less stressful. During IPT sessions, fitness specialists give us tips on every IPPT station. The enhanced system gives me more time to plan a suitable training schedule and to achieve the PPTs. I definitely recommend IPT for those who have problems passing their IPPT!"

LTA (NS) Amos Goh, 26
- HQ 6 Div

"The trainers during IPT were very helpful, and they helped me to improve my Standing Broad Jump (SBJ) distance. They gave me practical pointers on how to perform exercises to improve my SBJ. The PPTs are achievable and gave me the motivation to improve. After eight sessions of IPT, I passed my IPPT. The flexibility of the new system is also something which I appreciate. For my next cycle, I'm aiming for a Silver award!"
