Happy 15th Anniversary to our 180 Squadron!

24 Jan 20

The people behind our ASSeT boarding operations have always given more than 100% to ensure that our waters remains safe from threats and maritime trade continues to flow smoothly into Singapore.

Day and night, teams are out boarding vessels that transit through Singapore waters. During the maritime security operations stood up for the DPRK-US Singapore Summit and ASEAN Summit held in Singapore in 2018, the teams worked round the clock conducting continuous boardings as they checked that vessels in the vicinity of the events posed no threats.

Serving as a crucial cog in our Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF), the unit deservingly bagged the MSTF Best Operational Excellence Unit award three years in a row, from 2015-2017. Over the years, the squadron also saw a steady transformation, growing both the scale and scope of their capabilities - through which the development of its people remained at the forefront. Comprising both national servicemen and regulars, the squadron advanced boarding competency training such as introducing the MARSEC Compliant Boarding Skills Badge, as well as incorporating new safety frameworks.

Truly one of our assets! Our seafront remains Safe and Secure, thanks to the men and women of 180 SQN!

It's not an easy feat, but our ASSeTs are out there conducting boarding operations every single day.
