It was all hands on deck at the fourth ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM)-Plus Maritime Security Field Training Exercise, as 19 ships, 10 aircraft and 700 personnel from the 18 nations worked together to counter transnational maritime security threats in a series of drills.
This ranged from boarding and searching ships with suspected hijackers to helicopter cross-landings on ships to sharing information to track vessels of interest.
The exercise, jointly organised by Singapore and the Republic of Korea (ROK), started in Busan, ROK on 30 Apr and ended on 13 May at RSS Singapura - Changi Naval Base.
Enter camp after a contactless fingerprint scan; draw weapons and stores on your own using facial biometric scanning; choose your menu before you enter the cookhouse. This could all be in the near future for national servicemen under a new suite of Smart Camp initiatives piloted by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The Smart Camp was one of 29 projects showcased at this year’s Digital Innovation Day, held at Kranji Camp III on 9 and 10 May.
From perfecting capabilities to building bonds, more than 900 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces and the US Marine Corps worked together hand in hand at Exercise Valiant Mark 2019. The exercise saw the two sides operate together through jungle and built-up areas, with a battalion heli-borne mission that culminated in a dawn attack.
