Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad Attends Defence & Security Exhibition in London; Reaffirms Close Defence Partnership Between Both Armed Forces

Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad is on a working visit to the UK from 11 to 14 September 2023. Mr Zaqy attended the Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEI) Exhibition 2023 in London on 12 September. This year's DSEI highlights the integration of capabilities across domains such as the Air, Land, Sea and Cyber, and serves as a platform to bring together the international defence and security community. The DSEI was attended by government and defence officials, industry and business leaders from around the world.

As part of his visit programme, Mr Zaqy also met with Minister of State for the Armed Forces James Heappey on 13 September during his visit to the Royal Air Force (RAF) Wyton – Cambridgeshire. Both Ministers reaffirmed the close partnership between the Singapore Armed Forces and the British Armed Forces. They also discussed ways to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation in areas of mutual interest, in line with the recent Joint Declaration on the United Kingdom-Singapore Strategic Partnership.

Mr Zaqy's visit to the UK underscores the warm and long-standing bilateral defence relations between Singapore and the UK, underpinned by the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation. Both countries cooperate under the ambit of the Five Power Defence Arrangements, and interact across a wide range of activities including military exercises and exchanges, dialogues, and cross-attendance of courses. These interactions strengthen mutual understanding and professional ties between the two armed forces.
