Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted a reception for participating organisations, sponsors and key appointment holders of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2022 organising committee in recognition of their support and contributions towards this year's NDP. At the NDP Appreciation Function held at Gardens By The Bay, Dr Ng presented awards to 25 Gold Award recipients and 70 Principal Partners to thank them for their hard work and dedication.
Dr Ng said that the NDP 2022 celebrations, "signalled a confidence because the participation this year was even higher than some pre-COVID NDPs Crowds were at record numbers. At the Floating Platform and around the Bay – almost 125,000 combined and about three million viewers tuning in online or watching at home. Whether on site or across the island, Singaporeans made a statement of their desire and confidence to return to normalcy, to claim back what the virus had robbed us of, these past years." Dr Ng also emphasised that "From the NDPs of those two years which were more difficult, we learnt important lessons as we adjusted to the challenges of the pandemic. For NDP 2022, the 12 heartland celebration sites reached out to more than 150,000 Singaporeans, one of the largest ever on record. Singaporeans wanted to celebrate National Day together".
This year's NDP theme, "Stronger Together, Majulah!", commemorates the strength of Singaporeans to build a better future together through all facets of Total Defence. NDP 2022, in its particularly significant milestone year of commemorating 55 years of National Service, also recognised the dedication and contribution of generations of national servicemen and their network of support. In his speech, Dr Ng thanked the invaluable support and contributions from the Singapore Armed Forces, Home Team, and the public and private sector who came together to make NDP 2022 a success.
At the appreciation function, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General (LG) Melvyn Ong presented awards to 58 Major Partners and 225 Co-partners of NDP 2022. LG Ong will also present the Silver Awards to 304 recipients at a separate appreciation event next week.
