Defence Minister Ng Reaffirms Warm Defence Ties with Counterparts at 55th Munich Security Conference

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met President of the Kuwait National Security Bureau Sheikh Thamer Ali Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah yesterday1. They reaffirmed the warm and friendly defence ties between Singapore and Kuwait and discussed security developments in the Middle East. Dr Ng also expressed appreciation for Kuwait's support for the SAF's deployments as part of the multinational coalition to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Dr Ng also met Lithuania Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis yesterday. They reaffirmed the friendly defence relations between Singapore and Lithuania, and exchanged views on various geopolitical security developments affecting Europe and Asia.

Earlier in Munich, Dr Ng also met the United States Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan, United Kingdom Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson, and Canadian Minister of National Defence Harjit Singh Sajjan. 

Dr Ng is on a three-day visit to Munich to attend the 55th Munich Security Conference (MSC) from 15 to 17 February 2019. Conducted annually in Germany since 1963, the MSC is a high-level security conference that brings together key foreign affairs and defence leaders from around the world. He will officiate at the launch ceremony of the Republic of Singapore Navy's first Type 218SG submarine in Kiel tomorrow.
