The SAF Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) held a Promotion and Formation Patch Presentation Parade at Maju Camp this afternoon, where 67 SAFVC Volunteers (SVs) were promoted to the rank of SV2 and 73 SV(Trainees) were presented the formation patch to signify the completion of the two-week Basic Training. Senior Minister of State for Defence, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman was present at the parade as the Guest of Honour.  He was accompanied by Chief of Army, Brigadier-General (BG) Goh Si Hou and Commander SAFVC Colonel (COL) Ong Kok Wui. The parade was witnessed by friends, family members and employers of SVs.  

Speaking after the parade, Dr Maliki acknowledged the continued success of the scheme, "I am heartened to see the good progress by the SAFVC since inception.  SAFVC continues to sustain positive momentum by launching 15 new roles this year. In addition to widening the deployability of SVs, these new roles provide operational value and meaningful contribution to the peace and security of Singapore." He added, "Till date, the SAFVC has completed over 90 deployments, with SVs serving alongside active and Operationally Ready National Servicemen in support of our national defence. Through the tough and engaging training, the SVs have also developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of the SAF and National Service."

Addressing the SVs during the parade, COL Ong commended them for their conviction and commitment to serve in the SAFVC. He added, "Since 2015, SAFVC has enlisted more than 700 SVs. It is heartening to see more Singaporeans and Permanent Residents stepping forward to contribute to national defence and support National Service. SAFVC continues to attract quality and diverse SVs who hail from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences." 

The inaugural Tri-Service (Army, Navy and Air Force) Promotion Parade saw 67 SV1s promoted in recognition of their commitment to defence by supporting SAF operations and training during their deployments. As they continue to deepen their skills and knowledge, they will be expected to take on more challenging deployment roles. 

The 15 new roles launched this year will span across five domains: (1) Safety; (2) Engineering; (3) Psychology/Counselling; (4) Military Band; and (5) Supply Chain. With the introduction of these 15 new roles, there will be a total of 31 roles available in the SAFVC.
