RSAF Marks 50 Years of Safeguarding Singapore's Skies

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, marking five decades of commitment and dedication to safeguard Singapore's skies.

The RSAF will commemorate this significant milestone with a series of events in 2018, starting in February with the RSAF50@Singapore Airshow 2018, where the RSAF's assets and platforms will be on static display. This will also be the first time an F-15SG and two F-16s will be performing together in the integrated aerial display. From March to May 2018, the RSAF50@Heartlands will be held at five locations – Toa Payoh, Sembawang, Punggol, Bedok and Jurong East – to reach out and show the RSAF's appreciation for the strong public support over the years. The RSAF50@Marina Barrage will be held during the weekend after the National Day Parade 2018, where Singaporeans will be able to view the commemorative RSAF50 aerial flypast comprising more than 20 RSAF flying assets. Finally, the RSAF50 Parade will be held in-conjunction with the RSAF's Anniversary on 1 September 2018 to round off the momentous year for the RSAF.

Announcing the plans for RSAF50 at the Air Force Museum this afternoon, Chief-of-Staff – Air Staff, Brigadier-General (BG) Kelvin Khong, Chairman of the RSAF50 Steering Committee said, "This year, the Republic of Singapore Air Force celebrates our 50th anniversary. The transformation of our air force over the last 50 years is only possible because of the support of Singaporeans and dedication of generations of airmen, past and present. We look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our fellow Singaporeans through a series of events that we have planned, such as our celebrations at the Singapore Airshow, at the heartlands, and at the Marina Barrage. We would like to invite all Singaporeans to join us in our celebrations."

The theme for RSAF50 is, 'Our Home, Above All'. It embodies the RSAF's resolve to remain vigilant, capable and ready to respond to threats to our national security, and to place the defence of Singapore as its top priority. Through the series of commemorative events, the RSAF hopes to share its transformation journey from a 1st to 3rd Generation air force, and pay tribute to its people, including fellow Singaporeans, for their shared commitment, contributions, sacrifices and support to protect our home and our way of life.
