1,128 Graduate as SAF Specialists

Senior Minister of State for Trade & Industry and National Development, Dr Koh Poh Koon, reviewed the 34th Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp this evening. A total of 1,128 Specialist Cadets comprising 1,023 from the Singapore Army, 70 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 35 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force graduated as Specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Addressing the graduands at the parade, Dr Koh emphasised how Singaporeans' commitment to defence has contributed to a safe and secure Singapore and safeguarded our way of life. He said, "Singapore has made huge strides in progress since our independence more than fifty years ago but this did not happen by chance. Instead, it happened through the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice, as well as commitment of each and every successive generation of Singaporeans. … Singapore's commitment to a strong SAF has ensured decades of security and stability for Singapore in a volatile world." He also highlighted the dynamic nature of the security environment today, and reminded the Specialists of the important role that they play. "[The] spirit of constant adaptation and improvement is critical as new threats continue to confront us. The current security situation in the world remains tense… As Specialists on the ground, you play a vital role in such operations. If ever called into action, it is essential that you discharge your duties with the professionalism and discipline that your training has taught you. Your leadership is pivotal in times of crisis. Inspire those under your charge to work towards the common mission of keeping our Singapore safe and secure," he said.

The graduation parade marked the completion of the 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where the graduands trained under rigorous and realistic conditions to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the vocations in the SAF. Present at the parade were families and friends of the graduands and senior SAF officers.
