Dr Maliki Attends Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in Perth

Senior Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman attended the Sub-Regional Defence Ministers' Meeting on Counter-Terrorism: The Perth Meeting, in Perth, Australia today.

During the meeting, the countries discussed the transboundary threat of terrorism and the security challenges posed to the region, as well as ways to enhance regional counter-terrorism (CT) capacity. They exchanged perspectives and experiences on topics such as information sharing in CT, the rising maritime terrorism threat, as well as recovery efforts in terrorist-hit areas.

Dr Maliki shared on Singapore's approach to CT and affirmed Singapore's commitment to strengthening regional CT cooperation through platforms such as this inaugural meeting in Perth, the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), and ADMM-Plus. In particular, Dr Maliki highlighted that Singapore is committed to fostering regional CT cooperation within the defence sectoral during Singapore’s Chairmanship of the ADMM/ADMM-Plus this year. 

Hosted by Australian Minister for Defence Marise Payne, this inaugural meeting involved Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. These countries issued a Joint Ministerial Statement at the end of the meeting, reaffirming their commitment to work together in the fight against terrorism.
