Fact Sheet: Army Deployment Force for Homeland Security Operations and Contingencies

With the rise of global terrorism and incidences of disasters, the Singapore Armed Forces will form the Army Deployment Force (ADF), a high readiness unit to respond swiftly and decisively to a full spectrum of operations and contingencies to defend Singapore.

The ADF will be a battalion-sized force comprising highly-trained soldiers with niche capabilities to reinforce the operations of the Island Defence Task Force (IDTF), Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) and Home Team agencies in an expanded range of tasks. For example, in a terrorist attack where multiple areas of Singapore are affected, the SOTF and ADF can be activated quickly to support the Home Team. In this scenario, the ADF can be employed with assault weapons and the Peacekeeper Protected Response Vehicles to surround an affected area to contain the armed attackers, while the SOTF close in to neutralise these attackers and rescue hostages.

In other civil contingencies such as disasters or when there are multiple security hotspots in Singapore, the IDTF and ADF can also be employed to support the Home Team agencies. In this scenario, the ADF can be employed with pistols, Tasers and the Protected Light Utility Vehicles to assist in mass evacuations or to enhance domestic security.

The ADF can also be activated for overseas missions, for example, for regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) or Peace Support Operations.
