Fact Sheet: About N.E.mation! 10

N.E.mation! is an annual digital animation competition organised by Nexus for youths to express their thoughts on Total Defence through one-minute animation clips. With the help of industry professionals, students with no prior experience will be able to produce broadcast-quality animation clips that will be screened in cinemas and on television.N.E.mation! celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year.

795 story ideas were submitted and 1,701 students took part in this year's competition. N.E.mation! has been very well received over the past ten years, attracting more than 15,000 student participants since its launch in 2007.N.E.mation! 10 gave students the opportunity to unleash their creativity based on the Total Defence 2016 theme "Together We Keep Singapore Strong".

The theme was chosen to reflect Singapore's journey into the next lap of nationhood after celebrating 50 years of independence in 2015. It is timely to reflect on and reaffirm the strengths, values and beliefs that have brought Singapore this far, as well as the qualities within each and every Singaporean that will help our nation remain a shining red dot for the next 50 years and beyond.

The competition was open to students from Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges and Centralised Institutes. Students had to participate in teams of three to four.

The winners of the competition were determined by a combination of public voting (50%) and judging (50%) by a panel comprising industry professionals, academics, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Defence. The top 10 finalist clips were judged based on the following criteria: (i) Creativity and Content (45%), (ii) Entertainment Value (25%). (iii) Animation Skills (20%) and (iv) Aesthetics (10%). This year, the competition saw a record number of 48,946 public voters.Competition Timeline
