“My time at Basic Military Training Centre School V (BMTC Sch V) has taught me about the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) core values and what they represent. For one, you need to have fighting spirit to do your best and never give up however daunting the tasks may seem. I have also learnt that you need to show care for those around you, and that as long as you work towards the goal together, you will be able to achieve them.”
With these takeaways from his time at BMTC Sch V, LCP Lim Zhe Shen Timothy embarked on his journey in 3rd Army Maintenance Base (3 AMB) where he serves in the Logistics Branch as a finance clerk. “My job scope involves inventory management and supplies procurement, ensuring that the unit is well-equipped for its daily operation. I am also appointed as the unit Ration IC, and manage the ration indent to ensure that meals are catered for the staff."

In addition to his usual job scope, LCP Lim was also approached to help out in the COVID-19 operations, where he learned to conduct swab tests for servicemen deployed to the frontline, and taught other regulars and full-time national servicemen (NSFs) how to properly don on the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). “I was happy when I was approached to help out, as I believe that despite my PES status, I can still contribute and serve my country well. Moreover, with my nursing qualifications, it was an opportunity to utilise my skills and knowledge.”

In recognition of his effort, LCP Lim was also presented with the SAF Sergeant Major coin and a letter of appreciation from the Chief Army Medical Officer. “Even though we are not combat-fit, it does not mean that we cannot contribute meaningfully. We can use our skills and knowledge gained from BMT and National Service to become a good solider and eventually excel in our future."
