Changi Naval Base was officially opened by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong on 21 May 2004.
The base was constructed in view of the RSN's expanding operational requirements. It is located at the eastern part of Singapore and is built on reclaimed land. It encompasses an area of 86 hectares, a sizable basin and 6.2 km of berthing space and houses several operational and support units. The base incorporates information technology and automation to optimise its daily operations as well as innovative solutions to minimise operating costs.
