BASIC OPERATING THEATRE (OT) SCRUB COURSE

The OT Scrub Medic Course is a 2-week course designed to train NSmen OT Medics up to a baseline level of proficiency in scrub knowledge and skills. This is to enable these NSmen to assist surgeons in the Combat Support Hospitals in times of disaster or conflict.

At the end of the course, participants will be assigned to operating theatres in tertiary hospitals for observation, which will be followed by a field visit to a SAF OT container for familiarisation with the lay-out and structure. Participants who pass the theory and practical assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.

CRITICAL CARE MEDIC COURSE

The Critical Care Medic Course is a 2-week course designed to provide accredited training to raise NSmen to an entry-level of individual proficiency for their role in High Dependency Care sections in their respective units in times of operation.

At the end of the course, participants will be involved in a clinical attachment to a restructured hospital where they will observe the roles and functions of critical care nursing paramedics in a surgical intensive care unit. Participants who pass the theory and practical assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED) CERTIFICATION

The AED course is a 8-hour course designed to teach the knowledge for the use of an AED, the management protocol (on scene and en-route and the practical use of an AED in various scenarios.

At the end of the course, participants are required to sit for a theory and a practical assessment. A certificate will be issued to all participants who pass both the theory and practical assessments. The certificate is valid for 2 years and is renewable at SMTI CPR Centre.

BASIC CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (BCLS) CERTIFICATION

The BCLS course is an 8-hour course designed to teach the skills of CPR for both adult and infant collapsed victims and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. It is recommended for health care providers who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-hospital settings.

At the end of the course, participants are required to sit for a theory and a practical assessment. A certificate will be issued to all participants who pass both the theory and practical assessments. The certificate is valid for 2 years and is renewable at SMTI CPR Centre.

HEARTSAVERS (HS) CERTIFICATION

The Heartsavers course is a 4-hour course designed to teach the skills of CPR for adult collapsed victims and relief for foreign-body airway obstruction. This course is recommended for the layperson that possess minimal or no medical knowledge.

At the end of the course, participants are required to sit for a theory and a practical assessment. A certificate will be issued to all participants who pass both the theory and practical assessments. The certificate is valid for 2 years and is renewable at SMTI CPR Centre.
