It was a pleasant atmosphere at the office on 20 July, 2012 as the staff of SAFTI Military Institute Headquarters (MIHQ) headed over to the Civil Service Club @ Bukit Batok after half a day of hard work. There were mutual feelings of excitement and anticipation as SAFTIrians gathered at the Westwood Bowl bowling alley and consumed quick lunches before the big game, which was organised by the Human Resource Shared Services Centre (HR SSC). Five teams of bowlers, all comprised of staff from the various MIHQ offices to foster cohesion, took their positions at their respective lanes. Eager to get the ball(s) rolling, Comdt., SAFTI MI, BG Benedict Lim kept his opening speech short and simple with a quick "Let's just have fun!" before throwing the first bowl to officially open the event.

The lanes saw myriad throw styles and players, from first-timers having a good time, to professional bowlers aiming for a perfect 300. We even had a stunning four-bagger, who was none other than LCP Lim Hong Wei of HR SSC! Competition was tight as bowlers vied for the most pinfalls. Keglers new to the game also had a whale of a time as every spare and strike, unexpected or otherwise, was greeted with roaring applause, cheers, and high-fives from teammates.

After three games of wicked frames, gutter balls, and players attempting to down the near-impossible split, the winners were finally announced. Every team walked away with prizes to indulge in good cheer. In the end, it was BG Benedict who topped the score board with a grand total of 414 pinfalls. The event concluded with everyone in good spirits, looking forward to a weekend of rest, as well as the next cohesion.
