On 9th February 2012, the men and women of SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) warmly welcomed BG Benedict Lim as their new Commandant. The outgoing Commandant, BG Tan Ming Yiak, Mark, was given a splendid farewell by the SAFTI MI family who acknowledged the changes he had brought about and the contributions he had made to the Home of the Officer Corps in his short tenure as Commandant, which began last year on 25th March 2011.

Under BG Tan's leadership, SAFTI MI has gone from strength to strength, with his commitment to the SAFTI cause of producing officers of the highest calibre. In his farewell address, BG Tan, who also holds the appointment of Future Systems Architect, Future Systems Directorate, attributed his success as Comdt SAFTI MI to the strong foundation built by his predecessors and also thanked everyone at SAFTI MI for their support.

The incoming Commandant, BG Benedict Lim relinquished his appointment as Chief Armour Officer/Commander 25th Divison on 20th January 2012 to take on the reigns at SAFTI MI. During his tenure as CAO/25th Div, BG Lim steered armour via three key thrusts - strengthening the force, enriching the family and delivering the future. The National Day Parade in 2010 led by him was best remembered for the majestic roll of the mobile column, the dazzling show in a mix of vibrant colours and a unifying theme.

Previously, his tour of duty has seen him hold several key staff appointments in MINDEF and the General Staff. He was Director, MINDEF Public Affairs in 2004 where he was the Ministry's spokesman and Assistant Chief of General Staff (Operations) in 2007. Under his watch as ACGS (Ops) he was instrumental in sharpening the Army's operational readiness as well as expanding the overseas deployment footprint in Afghanistan for SAF.

In recognition of his outstanding leadership, contributions and service to the SAF, BG Lim was awarded Public Administration Medal - Silver (Military) in 2007 and Long Service Medal (Military) in 2011.

The SAFTI MI family wholeheartedly welcomes BG Benedict Lim as Commandant SAFTI Military Institute.
