RADM KEN CHEONG KWOK CHIEN

Rear Admiral Cheong was enlisted into the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) in January 1992 and was awarded the SAF Overseas Scholarship. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from Cambridge University, UK.
RADM Cheong's early days in the navy were spent with the missile gunboats and missile corvettes. He held command of the patrol vessel RSS Brave, missile corvette RSS Valiant. Notably, as Commanding Officer of the frigate RSS Stalwart, RADM Cheong led the integration of the naval helicopters with the frigates. RADM Cheong subsequently commanded the missile corvette squadron and frigate squadron. In 2015, commanded First Flotilla. In 2012 and 2014, RADM Cheong was appointed Commander of the SAF Task Force at the Gulf of Aden, and led counter-piracy operations under the ambit of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151. In 2016, RADM Cheong commanded international counter piracy forces as Commander CTF151. Between 2016 to 2018, RADM Cheong commanded the Fleet.
RADM Cheong held various staff appointment. He served as a Policy Officer in the Ministry of Defence, and Head Budget Force Plans in the Naval Plans Department. RADM Cheong also held concurrent appointments as the Military Private Secretary for the Minister of State for Defence, the Second Minister for Defence, and the Minister for Defence, and as the Special Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Force. RADM Cheong was appointed Head Naval Operations in 2018.
RADM Cheong has been awarded the Public Administration Medal, Bronze (Military), and the SAF Overseas Service Medal (Enhanced).
RADM Cheong is happily married to Janice, and they have two children, Yuna and Tidus.
