Embodying the same level of commitment towards defence, DXOs work together with their military counterparts to ensure Singapore's security and stability. As MINDEF's non-uniformed defence personnel, DXOs contribute to the mission by bringing along with them specialised skills and expertise drawn from their various fields and disciplines. United by this common cause, our lines of defence complement each other to secure the prosperity and progress of our nation.
People are the essence of our success and we are committed to providing DXOs with a good environment for learning and development at both professional and personal levels. As a DXO, you can expect the following opportunities:
There are milestone programmes in place to develop your core competencies. The foci for these programmes range from on-boarding of new hires, shaping of defence perspective, equipping basic skill sets, leadership development, gaining a deeper understanding of the Singapore Public Service and Whole-of-Government perspective.
You will attend courses and seminars which will equip you with professional skills and knowledge that are relevant to your job area. The functional courses are tiered at different levels (e.g. basic, intermediate, advance) and you will be scheduled to attend courses at the appropriate level.
Beyond the courses arranged by the HR department, you can initiate your own learning to enhance your core competencies with the training credits provided annually.
If you perform well, training awards and sponsorships such as the MINDEF Postgraduate Award and Part-time Degree Sponsorship are available for you to pursue further studies.
Talent Management Programme
With proven performance and ability to take on bigger responsibilities, there are opportunities for you to be placed on our talent management programme, where you are given further opportunities for exposure and development in MINDEF.
DXOs are empowered to map out their personal plan tailored to their own career aspirations and needs. To facilitate DXOs in the fulfilment of their plan, MINDEF provides credits and time for DXOs to pursue self-initiated learning and development, which is over and above the courses arranged by HR.
Flexible work hours and arrangements are available for DXOs to better harmonise work and life. Various leave schemes are also in place to provide for a family-friendly work environment. Such schemes include maternity leave, paternity leave, childcare leave, parent-care leave and compassionate leave.
MINDEF provides all DXOs with S$150,000 Group Term Life and S$150,000 Group Personal Accident insurance coverage during the tenure of their service. The premiums are paid for by MINDEF. DXOs also have the option to purchase additional coverage, at competitive premiums. They will also receive subsidised outpatient treatment (up to a capped amount), and dental benefits.
DXOs also get to enjoy welfare benefits such as the appointed child-care provider, and select local/overseas holiday chalets.
