C4 Expert (C4X)


As a C4X* personnel, you will be deployed to defend MINDEF/SAF systems and networks. C4X personnel will specialise in military cyber operations and gain a deep understanding of military systems and networks.

They will perform specialised operational roles in the following areas:

  • Cybersecurity Monitoring
  • Threat Assessment and Response
  • Vulnerability Audit and Penetration Testing
  • Malware Analysis and Cyber Forensics

  • Besides operational roles, they can be deployed to staff appointments like operational planning, cyber policy formulation and long-term capability development to meet new challenges and opportunities presented by the evolving cyber environment.

    Training Progression


    C4X personnel will be trained in technical skills such as network security, cyber analytics, threat hunting, malware forensics and cryptography, depending on the roles they are performing. They will be upskilled via in-house training as well as industry-recognised professional courses. C4X personnel will also go through various military courses to attain leadership skills and military knowledge, which will enable them to operate with other military counterparts in the SAF as an integrated force.

    ^Professional certifications, including International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 and Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), will be selectively offered to individual based on their specialisation and scope of work.

    Higher-grade appointments of ME4 and above (Senior MEs) encompass greater leadership responsibilities and deeper specialisation.

    The Nurturing Roadmap for Military Domain Experts Scheme (MDES) will groom uniformed personnel to acquire deep expertise in various domains. These military experts will operate C4I’s complex systems to provide superior intelligence that will shape the outcome of the information battlespace.

    Courses will be provided to further develop your deep specialisation in technical and/or operational aspects.

    As a Military Intelligence Expert (Engineering) in C4I, you belong to a group of dedicated and driven professionals who provide C4 system services like secured voice telecommunications, broadband data networks, mobile phones, satellite communications, to support the full spectrum of SAF 24/7 operations. You will monitor, manage, maintain and defend these systems, uphold their 24/7 operability with rapid response to operational demands while ensuring their availability and sustainability.

    ME1 to ME3 appointments provide the foundation for building and consolidating invaluable operational experience and system competencies. With this foundation, outstanding Military Intelligence Expert (Engineering) can progress to higher-grade appointments of ME4 and above, in the vocation of either Senior Military Intelligence Expert or C4 Expert, which encompass greater leadership responsibilities and deeper specialisation.

    This appointment is only available to those who have graduated with a relevant diploma in Engineering.

    Cyber NSF Scheme


    Pre-enlistees who are interested in using their cybersecurity skills during their National Service are welcome to apply. Cyber NSFs will perform fundamental cyber tasks such as threat monitoring and assessment.



    Eligibility Criteria


    Selection Test
    • Theory test on topics such as network security architecture, cryptography and application security.

    • Practical test involving problem-solving and analytical skills.


    Successful applicants will be notified and emplaced on the Cyber NSF Scheme upon enlistment.


    Selected individuals will be offered the Cyber Specialist Award.

    Selected NSFs who possess the skills and aptitude may be offered the Cyber Specialist Award, allowing them to serve as Cyber Specialists.

    Operations

    Cyber Specialists will engage in operations against rapidly evolving threats. They will perform advanced cyber tasks such as, incident response, cyber forensics, malware analysis and penetration testing.




    Cyber NSF Work-Learn Programme

    Cyber Specialists can graduate with a degree at the same time as their peers who serve 2 years of NS.

    The Work-Learn Programme is designed to enable Cyber Specialists to continuously upgrade their skills and competencies. While on the job, they will attend cybersecurity modules at a local university, earning academic credits in the process. The work experience and qualifications gained will position them well for a career in the cybersecurity industry.
