UNMISET (UN Mission Of Support In East Timor)
After East Timor gained its independence, the Peacekeeping operations in East Timor was changed from UNTAET to UNMISET (UN Mission Of Support In East Timor). The 61-men Platoon Task force 2 serving in UNTAET was repatriated on 7 Jun 02, with Platoon Task force 3 taking over its vigilance in the region. Its tour of duty ended on 15 Oct 02.

SAF's increased contributions to UNMISET
Subsequently, under the request of the UN, Singapore has increased her peacekeeping efforts in Timor Leste. SAF's Platoon task force has been expanded into a Company Task Force (CTF), which will serve with the Thai Battalion in the South-West sector of Timor Leste. A 72-man Air Support Crew consisting of Pilots, Air crew, Technician and other support staff,
and 4 UH-1H Helicopters from RSAF were also deployed alongside the CTF. This is the first time that NS-Full time (NSF) and NSmen volunteers has been deployed as combat peacekeepers.
