S'pore, Indon navies in mine countermeasure exercise

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) are conducting Joint MINEX, a mine countermeasure exercise, from 11 to 19 Aug.

Two RSN mine countermeasure vessels, RSS Bedok and RSS Punggol, and one TNI-AL minehunter, KRI Pulau Rupat, are participating in the exercise.

They are jointly carrying out mine countermeasure operations against a simulated terrorist threat off Pulau Bintan.

Singapore, Australia to expand defence cooperation

Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong and PM Kevin Rudd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning defence cooperation at the Istana on 12 Aug.

Both leaders expressed their belief that the MOU is a reflection of the strong commitment from Singapore and Australia to enhancing their relationship, as well as a natural step in the development of bilateral defence ties.

Don't rain on my parade

Thai Supreme Commander receives top military award

The Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF), General (GEN) Boonsrang Niumpradit, was conferred Singapore's highest military award, the Distinguished Service Order (Military), by President S R Nathan at the Istana on 7 Aug.

This award was presented in recognition of GEN Boonsrang's outstanding contributions in enhancing the excellent ties between the RTARF and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
