Fifth Deployment of Landing Ship Tank to the Gulf to Support Reconstruction of Iraq http://www.mindef.gov.sg/imindef/news_and_events/nr/2008/aug/30aug08_nr2.html Singapore has made its latest contribution to the multi-national effort in support of the reconstruction of Iraq with the deployment of a Republic of Singapore Navy Landing Ship Tank (LST) RSS Resolution to the Gulf.

Led by Lieutenant-Colonel Tan Bian, RSS Resolution will undertake tasks such as protecting the waters around key oil terminals, conducting patrols and boarding operations, as well as providing logistics support for coalition vessels and helicopters during the three-month deployment.

Lending a Helping Hand - Singapore, Indonesian Navies Provide Community Services to People of Padang http://www.mindef.gov.sg/imindef/news_and_events/nr/2008/aug/29aug08_nr2.html Some 500 personnel from the Singapore and Indonesian navies spent the past four days providing community services to the people in Padang, Indonesia.

The navy personnel were taking part in the 57th Surya Bhaskara Jaya (SBJ), which is a series of socio-civic activities carried out regularly by the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) throughout the Indonesian archipelago. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has been taking part in the SBJ since it was first invited by the TNI-AL to join this humanitarian assistance programme in 1997.
