The 40th Anniversary National Service (NS) Bonus was announced during Budget 2006 as part of the Progress Package (Providing Opportunities through Growth, Remaking Singapore for Success), to share part of the Government’s budget surpluses with Singaporeans.

The 40th Anniversary NS Bonus is given in recognition of our national servicemen’s contribution to defence, and to mark the 40th Anniversary of NS in 2007.

Quantum of 40th Anniversary NS Bonus

Eligible national servicemen will receive either $100 or $400 of NS Bonus, based on their NS status as at 31 Dec 2005.

NS Status (as at 31 Dec 2005)
Amount
- Full time National Servicemen (NSFs)
- NSmen who have not completed their Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) training cycle
$100
- NSmen who have completed their ORNS training cycle
- NSmen who are above statutory age (i.e. 40 years old for non-officers and 50 years old for officers)
$400
Eligibility Criteria

The 40th Anniversary NS Bonus will be given only to NSFs and NSmen who are Singapore citizens. This is in line with the Progress Package and past surplus sharing exercises.

To be eligible for the NS Bonus, NSFs and NSmen must be serving or have completed their NS in the SAF, SPF or SCDF as of 31 Dec 2005. In addition, NSFs must have completed Basic Military Training (BMT) or served at least 7 weeks of NS as at 31 Dec 2005 to be eligible.

Payment Procedure

Eligible NSF and NSmen aged 21 and above (as at 31 Dec 2005) will get their NS Bonus as part of the Progress Package and will be required to opt-in with CPF Board to receive it. CPF Board will be sending out a notification letter in late Mar 2006 with instructions on how to do this.

Eligible NSFs / NSmen under 21 years old (as at 31 Dec 2005) will have their NS Bonus credited directly into their bank account by 1 May 2006. This is because they will not be eligible for the rest of the Progress Package.
