Singapore made its latest contribution to the multinational efforts in support of the reconstruction of Iraq with the deployment of a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) KC-135 tanker aircraft. The KC-135 will depart Singapore for the Gulf tomorrow morning. Chief of Air Force, Major-General Lim Kim Choon, will officiate at the send-off ceremony.
The KC-135 detachment comprises 33 personnel, including aircrew, support staff as well as technicians from Singapore Technologies Aerospace. During its three-month long deployment, the KC-135 detachment will conduct air-to-air refuelling missions in support of the multinational forces.
The SAF had earlier deployed a Landing Ship Tank (LST) and a C-130 transport aircraft for two months each to aid Iraq’s reconstruction efforts.
