Beginning 2005, the SAF Instructional Development Programme was formalised, and it lays down when and which course instructors at all levels should take to best meet their individual needs. The programme comprises 3 levels:
Basic Level - This is the Methods of Instruction Course.
Intermediate Level (for Chief and Senior Instructors of Schools and Institutes) - This comprises 6 modules where participants acquire the latest in learning sciences, and obtain formal qualifications in the form of a Specialist Diploma in this field.
Advanced Level (for Heads and Chief Instructors of Schools and Institutes) - The 4 modules in this course provide understanding of major models to design and evaluate instructional programs, with application of pedagogical principles, strategies and methods. Participants can earn credits towards a Master Programme at the National Institute of Education.
