Course Description
Q1. What does the Specialist Diploma Programme comprise?
Ans. It comprises 6 modules, as follows:
a. Designing Instruction (60 hrs) b. Educational Psychology (30 hrs) c. Assessing and Improving the Learning Environment (30 hrs) d. New Media in Teaching Pedagogy (30 hrs) e. Creating, Implementing and Evaluating Problem-Based Learning (30 hrs) f. Planning and designing Flexible learning (30 hrs)
Q2. What does the Advanced Modules Programme comprise?
Ans. It comprises 4 modules, as follows:
a. Instructional Design Models and Practices (36 hrs) b. Foundations of Learning and Instruction (36 hrs) c. Training Methods and Strategies (36 hrs) d. Evaluation Methods and Action Research (36 hrs)
Q3. How many programme runs are there in WY 07?
Ans. There are 2 runs of Specialist Diploma Programme and 1 run of Advanced Modules Programme in WY 07.
Q4. What is the maximum number of years permitted to complete the programme?
Ans. 2 years for both programmes but participants are strongly encouraged to complete within 1 year. For the earlier batches of participants who have started the Specialist Diploma or Advanced Modules Programmes in WY 05 and 06, priority will be given to them to complete in WY 07.
Q5. What do I get after completing the Specialist Diploma Programme?
Ans. Upon completing all 6 modules and duly submitted all required project work and individual assignments for grading, you will be awarded a Certificate of Specialist Diploma in Learning Sciences from NIE. The certificate will be presented during the Graduation Ceremony organised towards the end of each workyear.
Q6. What do I get after completing the Advanced Modules Programme?
Ans. Upon completing all 4 modules and duly submitted all required project work and individual assignments for grading, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance for the Advanced Modules in Learning Sciences. The certificate will be presented during the Graduation Ceremony organised towards the end of each workyear. Participants interested to advance further can opt to apply for the Masters of Art in Instructional Design and Technology (MA IDT) from NIE. The 4 modules attended can contribute towards credits earned in the Master Programme in IDT. However, eligibility and acceptance into the Master Programme is solely at the discretion of NIE.

Eligibility Criteria
Q7. Who is eligible to apply for the Specialist Diploma Programme?
Ans. Officers (CPT and above) and Warrant Officers (2WO and above) who are holding instructional appointments at the level of Senior Instructor or Chief Instructor or equivalent are eligible. Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years of remaining service in the current instructional appointment during the time of application. In terms of educational qualification, applicants must have a minimum of either a Diploma or A Level Certificate. Officers and Warrant Officers who are to be appointed as instructors in a training school or institutes will also be eligible. Documentary proof of intended posting or letter of appointment (if any) would be useful during the application process. Every candidate must be supported by his CO or Comd.
Q8. Who is eligible to apply for the Advanced Modules Programme?
Ans. In terms of educational qualification, applicants must have a minimum of either a Diploma or A Level Certificate. Officers and Warrant Officers who are to be appointed as instructors in a training school or institutes will also be eligible 'for consideration'.
Q9. Is there any exception if an applicant does not meet the eligibility criteria?
Ans. Yes. Officers and Warrant Officers who are currently in Training Development appointments may be considered for the Specialist Diploma Programme if their jobs require them to be educated and trained in the areas of Pedagogies and Learning Sciences. For such applicants, INTEC-SAFTI MI will assess and recommend that the applicants attend the core module (i.e. Designing Instruction Module) of the Specialist Diploma Programme first. If there are vacancies, INTEC will invite these participants to attend the rest of the modules.
Q10. What is the minimum educational qualification required?
Ans. For Specialist Diploma programme, the minimum educational qualification is either a Diploma or 'A' Level Certificate. For Advanced Modules Programme, the minimum educational qualification is a Bachelor degree.

Course Venue, Capacity and Schedule
Q11. Where are the modules conducted?
Ans. Both Specialist Diploma and Advanced Modules Programmes are conducted in NIE. Actual location of the rooms will be made known 2 weeks before the start of each module.
Q12. What is the course capacity for each module?
Ans. 27 for each Specialist Diploma Programme and 18 for the Advanced Modules Programme.

Application
Q14. When do I apply for these programmes?
Ans. Application starts from Feb to Mar each year.
Q15. How do I apply for either programmes?
Ans. Eligible applicant can apply through their respective school CO/Comd or equivalent. Shortlisting of candidates will be carried out amongst Training Community in consultation with various Service PMCs (TRADOC, TRACOM and ATD/AFS). Final shortlisting will be done by INTEC-SAFTI MI.
Q16. What are the information required during the application?
Ans. Applicants must provide the following information:
a. Rank & Name b. NRIC c. Service and Unit d. ORD/SED e. Current Appointment and effective date of current appointment f. Duration of Instructional Appt remaining (if applicable) g. Projected Instructional Appt & effective date (if applicable) h. Expected number of years to complete the programme i. Contact Details (Office No., Handphone No. and email address) j. Justifications (i.e. What is your purpose in attending the programme?)
Q17. What is the deadline for application?
Ans. The deadline for application for is 30 Mar 07.
Q18. When will I be informed that I have been accepted?
Ans. Successful applicants will be informed by first week of Apr 07.

Q19. Can a participant attend both programmes concurrently?
Ans. No.
Q20. What are the expectations required of a participant?
Ans. The Specialist Diploma and Advanced Modules Programmes are both academically rigorous and demanding. Participants selected must commit the time and effort to complete the programme over the stipulated 2 years. Failing which, MINDEF/SAF reserves the rights to seek for the amount of course fee invested in the participant if he/she withdraw or fail to complete the entire programme within the stipulated timeframe.
Q21. Is there a bond or MOS associated after attending these programme?
Ans. No. However, MINDEF/SAF reserves the rights to seek for the amount of course fee invested in the participant if he/she withdraw or fail to complete the entire programme within the stipulated timeframe.
