Aim
The aim of the National Service Command and Staff Course is to develop the professional knowledge and skills of Army officers so as to qualify them for higher level command and staff appointments in the SAF.
Course Objectives
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
- State the organisation and structure, role and capabilities of the Brigade and its sub units.
- Apply SAF’s operational doctrine at the Brigade level.
- Apply the battle procedure and the attendant operational staff work.
- Apply leadership and command skills.
Course Design
The duration of the course is approximately 10 months; and is divided into two Terms:
Term I. This is a 8-month correspondence term. The syllabus is designed to provide students with a basic foundation of all arms of the Division. Students will be provided with knowledge of the SAF Arms as well as the operational staff work of the Army. During this Term, students will be exposed to Leadership and Command Studies.
Term II. This is a 5 week residential Term and students will be organised into syndicates. The major part of this term involves instruction on Staff Work and Land Operations at the Brigade level. Role-play and tutorial map planning will be the main feature of this term. In addition, students will be exposed to Safety and Risk Management, Leadership and Command Studies.
