Early Years
The College was officially opened by the then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, on 13 February 1970
In 1968, approval was granted for SCSC to be established; and the College began a two-year development of a site at Fort Canning. Originally known as Bukit Larangan, Fort Canning was also the location of the house of Sir Stamford Raffles. It was renamed after the Governor-General and first viceroy of India, Lord Canning. The College was officially opened by the then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, on 13 February 1970 with Col Kirpa Ram Vij as the College Director. The first Command and Staff Course commenced on 17 Feb 1970. By 1975, the facilities at Fort Canning were clearly inadequate and plans were made for the College to relocate to a bigger campus. In 1976, the College moved to Marina Hill. By 1979, the officers from the Army, Navy and Air Forces were training together. Within four years however, the College moved to Seletar Camp which was officially opened on 13 February 1982, on her twelfth anniversary. By 1983, National Service officers were selected to attend the Command and Staff Course. In 1984, the Singapore Command and Staff Course was opened to officers from all ASEAN countries.
