Officer's Mess Chinese New Year Gala 2008
The usual tranquility at the officer's Mess was broken by the sound of firecrackers on the 15th of February, as Commandant SAFTI MI, Brigadier-General Jimmy Tan, signalled the beginning of the Officer's Mess Chinese New Year Gala 2008.

The celebrations kicked off with a lion dance performances inside the mess, bringing into the act mandarin oranges and ang-pows. The God of Fortune then came onto the scene, bringing to the crowd lucky numbers and well wishes.

Mr Pan Yongqiang, a Chinese calligrapher who has performed at the Istana for the President, graced the occasion and gave the Mess a demonstration of his calligraphy skills. He then gave the crowd tips on the finer points of Chinese scroll writing, and ended off by giving officers and their families the opportunity to try their hand at Chinese calligraphy.

The night ended with a bang as the Mess erupted in cheers for a 'loh hei' celebration, president of the mess committee and senior commanders thanked members for coming by distributing mandarin oranges and red packets.
