Welcome, Year of Rat
The SAFTI MI HQ Group (MI HQ, HR SSC, SAFTI SC) celebrated Chinese New Year on 4 Feb 08 at Dining Hall C to usher in the Year of The Rat. Comdt, SAFTI MI kicked off the festivities with the customary 'lighting' of the firecrackers 'to ward off evils' and welcome prosperity. Everyone then tucked in to a sumptuous lunch following the traditional 'Loh Hei' or tossing of raw fish salad while uttering auspicious sayings for good fortune and success.
The MCs for the event, Elizabeth and Nuriman brought the celebratory mood to a higher crescendo with their powerful rendition of Chinese New Year Songs while bantering with the guests. The Chinese Orchestral ensemble from Princess Elizabeth Primary School performed in the event to add to the festive cheers with their smooth delivery of traditional Chinese New Year songs. The children also participated in the games which earned them hearty applause from the audience. Prizes were also awarded to the Best Dressed Lady and Gentleman of the day. Thomas from SAFTI SC also got into the groove by playing the Violin.
That's not the end! All were presented with a lucky gift each. The luckier guests walked home with decorative items and 'Pots of Gold' (Auspicious Plants) signifying the blossom of health and Luck, and of course a prosperous year ahead for one and all.

Dy Comdt's Chinese New Year visit
It was a significant 1st day of the Lunar New Year on the 7th of February for the duty personnel in SAFTI MI. Dy Comdt, together with CO SAFTI SC and ISM, visited the duty personnel at the SAFTI Ops Room, SAFTI SC Duty Room, Guardhouse, Medical Centre, OCS wing lines and the International Officers' accommodation to present them with red packets and mandarin oranges, wishing each of them good health and happiness, and best of luck for the New Year. It was a meaningful appreciation by SAFTI MI HQ to our SAFTIrians who had to perform duty over the New Year celebration period. The duty personnel were grateful of this small gesture, some of them somewhat pleasantly surprised by the visit. There were smiles all round as pleasantries were exchanged, and certainly that made for a great start for the New Year ahead. Photo Gallery
