The Navy provides the following scholarships and sponsorship schemes for both OFFICERS and SPECIALISTS.

SAF Overseas Scholarship (SAFOS)

This award is second only to the President's Scholarship in terms of prestige. You will earn yourself an education at some of the world's finest universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Stanford.

Your studies could begin as early as 6 months into your Officer-Cadet-Training. While studying you'll earn promotions and at the same time, receive a full salary. Tuition fees, return airfare and a whole host of other benefits including book, equipment and clothing allowances will also be provided.

The SAFOS is aimed at selected individuals with academic excellence, strong military potential and leadership qualities. Recipients of this award will be groomed to assume top command in the RSN and SAF.

SAF Merit Scholarship (SMS) - Combat/Engineering/Psychology

Your studies could begin as early as 6 months into your Officer-Cadet-Training. While studying you'll earn promotions and at the same time, receive a full salary. Tuition fees, return airfare and a whole host of other benefits, including book, equipment and clothing allowances will also be provided.

This scholarship is only offered to students with excellent academic results and dynamic leadership qualities, preparing them for top command and senior management positions.

SAF Merit Scholarship (Women)

The SAF Merit Scholarship for women is offered exclusively to ladies with academic excellence and dynamic leadership qualities. It's a scholarship that will hone your leadership, managerial and organisational skills, and put your career on the fast track.

SAF Academic Scholarship (SAS) - Military/Combat/Engineering/Psychology

This award provides Naval Officer with the opportunity to pursue their education at prestigious universities overseas.

There are 4 schemes, which you can choose from under this scholarship:
  • SAS (Military)
  • SAS (Combat)
  • SAS (Psychology)
  • SAS (Engineering)
In addition, you will be given a monthly salary and a tuition fees while studying as well as enjoy other benefits.

Local Study Award (LSA)

This award gives candidates the option to pursue their tertiary education locally and is for those who wish to start their further education early.

With the LSA, you could begin your further education after just 3 to 6 months upon enlistment into National Service.

Once you've completed your course at NUS or NTU, you'll return to undergo your Office-Cadet-Training before moving on to enjoy an exciting Naval Career.

Joint Polytechnic-SAF Diploma Scheme (JPSDS)

Sponsors you for a full-time diploma course at the Polytechnic and assures you of a rewarding career upon graduation.

All your tuition and other compulsory fees at the Polytechnic will be paid for. You'll also be given an attractive allowance of $1000. That's several times more than what a typical full-time National Serviceman (NSF) would get.

Upon graduation, you'll have a career awaiting you in the Navy, where you'll hone your diploma-related skills. For males, this is inclusive of your NSF liability.

Throughout the course of your study, you'll be assessed through examinations and projects, just like any other student. And once you obtain your diploma, your career in the SAF is set to begin. As a Naval System Specialist (NSS), not only will you be taught to operate advanced equipment, you'll also be trained to maintain and repair them.

You may also be involved in project management, purchasing, quality assurance, teaching, and the modification and installation of new equipment, such as in the fields of radar communications and submarine technology.

Current Polytechnic students may also apply during any stage of their studies.

The SAF-ITE Sponsorship Scheme (SISS)

Offers a full sponsorship of your ITE course and assures you of a rewarding career upon graduation.

All your tuition and other compulsory fees at the ITE will be paid for. You'll also be given an attractive monthly allowance of up to $750 and $700 for HNITEC and NITEC students respectively.

Upon graduation, you'll have a career awaiting you as a Naval Systems Specialist, where you'll hone both your specialised combat and technical skills. For males, this inclusive of your National Service liability (NSF).

After graduation, you'll attend Basic Military Training (BMT) to prepare you for your career with the SAF. Current ITE students may also apply during any stage of their studies.

Induction Schemes

Those who've just graduated from the Poly or ITE may also apply for the Diploma Induction Scheme (DIS) and the ITE Induction Scheme (ITEIS) respectively. Under these schemes, you'll receive a lump sum of money as an incentive to join us as an NSS and put your technical skills to good use immediately.
