In peacetime, the RSN provides for the seaward defence and ensures the safety and security of Singapore’s vital Sea Lines of Communications (SLOC). The RSN maintains a continuous and comprehensive surveillance and presence in the Singapore Strait and approaches to safeguard Singapore’s territorial waters, deter sea robberies and look out for illegal immigrants. The RSN works closely with other government agencies such as the Maritime Port Authority and Police Coast Guard to accomplish its mission.

In a post-911 security environment, the RSN along with various internal and external maritime agencies has developed comprehensive and integrated plans and carries out a number of maritime security operations to enhance security in Singapore’s waters against possible terrorist threats.

The RSN contributes significantly to the SAF’s mission of diplomacy as well. It interacts and exercises with many foreign navies both from the region and beyond to strengthen defence co-operation and build up confidence and trust in defence relations. In addition, the RSN has represented the SAF to show Singapore’s commitment as a responsible member of the international community by conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations, Peace Support Operations and socio-civic activities both in the region and beyond.

In wartime should deterrence and diplomacy fail, the RSN aims to secure a victory over any aggressor at sea. The Navy’s main wartime tasks include ensuring the integrity of Singapore’s territorial waters, preventing interdiction of the vital SLOCs and destroying the aggressor’s maritime forces at sea.

The Crescent Moon and Five Stars represent our country and all that she stands for and is central to the logo just as the Navy has at its heart the defence of Singapore.

The Anchor epitomises our naval roots and signifies our continued adherence to our naval values which are our foundation.

The Lion represents courage, nobility and sovereignty which symbolises the nation and how the RSN will act in defence of Singapore.

The Tiger represents fierce determination and aggressive deterrence in how the RSN will carry out our duty of protecting our nation.

The Laurels are the hallmark of excellence that reflects the professionalism and dedication that goes into the making of the RSN.

From a humble beginning the day we were born,
Onwards and upwards we've moved on and on.
Never looking back we'll always grow.
Onwards and upwards the best we'll show.

Chorus:
We're the ones the sons of the sea.
Mighty men of the Singapore Navy.
We will stand for the right,
We will fight to the end.
We will always be true to our land.

Our waters to guard to ensure they are safe.
It's a great task only meant for the brave.
It does make us proud to know that we
All play a part to protect our seas.

With our comrades in hand from the Land and the Air,
TO-GETHER we stand in defence of our land.
Never flagging in adversity,
Forward we'll march on to VICTORY.
