1978
9 Div was officially formed on 1 Oct 1978 as a 'Reserves' Division. It has a humble beginning in a quiet cluster of buildings at Loewen Rd Camp in Tanglin.
However, as the formation grew in strength and numbers over the years, a move to new premises soon became necessary as the expanding division quickly outgrew its Tanglin headquarters.

1980s
9 Div made the move to Selarang Camp in Mar 1984 and the premises have remained the home of the Panthers ever since. Yet as early as 1983, plans to redevelop Selarang Camp to better suit the needs of the expanding Division had already been conceived.
These plans called for new administrative buildings and warehouses for various units in 9 Div as well as a new reserve training centre, cookhouse, canteen and recreational facilities. Demolition works began in 1987. Only the officers' mess and headquarters (the present 9 Div/Inf HQ) were retained to serve as our link to the past.
1992
As part of the restructuring of the Army, 9 Div became a Combined Arms Division on 31 Mar 92. 56th Singapore Armour Brigade joined the Panther family to provide the Division with an iron fist. Less than 10 years after moving in, 9 Div's steady evolution into an efficient fighting force was paralleled by an equally impressive transformation of its premises into a modern home of a Combined Arms Division. Besides the training and recreational infrastructure, Infantry, Artillery, Engineer, Signals and other support arms are now housed comfortably within the same compound in Selarang Camp.
1995
On 1 Jan 1995, 9 Div stands equal to all other Divisions as part of the overall SAF reorganization. It is no more solely a 'reservist' Division, but comprises both active soldiers and NSmen. With active units of 3rd and 6th Battalions, Singapore Infantry Regiment joining 10th Singapore Infantry Brigade, 9 Div's transformation to an elite force was completed.
