On 26 August, the Chief of Staff of the United States Army, General George W. Casey Jr. visited the Ministry of Defence, during which he called on Chief of Defence Force, LG Desmond Kuek; Chief of Army, MG Neo Kian Hong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean. During his visit, General Casey was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) in an investiture. The medal was awarded to General Casey in recognition of his significant contributions in enhancing the bilateral ties between the US Army and the Singapore Army.

Later, General Casey visited the new Murai Urban Training Facility to view a demonstration of our advanced systems and platforms in the 3rd Generation SAF. They included the Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS) and Integrated Body Armour. Commenting on his initial impression after the demonstration, General Casey said, "I must say I'm very impressed. I've always been very impressed with the professionalism of the Singaporean Army, which is one of the reasons I'm here."

During his visit, General Casey also met some of our Army servicemen who had returned from their deployment in Afghanistan, and they shared with him their experiences serving overseas.
