In April, the 1st Commando Battalion (1 Cdo) completed an exciting bilateral training with the Royal Thailand Army (RTA) Special Forces. Codenamed Exercise Flash Thunder, this is the 10th bilateral training between the two Special Forces. Conducted in Singapore, the exercise involved some 40 RTA Rangers, and 40 Officers and men from 1 Cdo.

The exercise involved a series of activities, including Small-Unit-Tactics training, Jungle Lane live-firing, Close Quarter Battle training, a full troop exercise and an airborne static jump.

This exercise gave both forces an opportunity to build rapport and enhance bilateral ties while facilitating professional exchanges of ideas in the areas of small-unit-tactics and other special forces capabilities. CPT Ong Siong Beng, the OC in charge of the exercise, summarised the outcome well when he said, "To be able to interact with the RTA Special Forces at such a close level brings about a greater understanding of their culture and tactics. It was definitely eye opening experience for every participant."

The next Exercise Flash Thunder will be conducted in Lopburi Thailand in 2009.
