HISTORY

1973 was only the fifth year of existence for the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). Yet, it was a special year and a key milestone in the RSAF's history as it marked the debut of the RSAF's very own and Singapore's first military aerobatics team - The Black Knights.

Since then, the Black Knights have thrilled spectators with their daring and spectacular performances exhibiting precise manoeuvres, tight formations and excellent teamwork.

In tandem with the technological advancement and development of the RSAF, the Black Knights progressed from flying a four-ship formation of the Hawker Hunters in the 70's to a five-ship F-5E Tigers team in the 80’s. In the 90's, the Black Knights performed with a six-aircraft formation, flying the pride of the local defence industry - the re-engined A-4SU Super Skyhawks. In 2000, the Black Knights performed with both the A-4SUs and the F-16 Fighting Falcons and made history by being the world’s first formation aerobatics team to fly two different aircraft types.

This year, in conjunction with RSAF's 40th anniversary, the Black Knights have returned to thrill and inspire at the inaugural Singapore Airshow 2008. The new Black Knights team will fly six F-16C Fighting Falcons in the red and white national colours of their A-4SU predecessors and are poised for their best performance yet. With more speed, power, daring, precision and sophisticated manoeuvres, the Black Knights promise to impress once again!
