Come and learn more about the Singapore Navy - how it began, the challenges the early sailors went through and overcame. Take a trip down memory lane, as you view the guns and other components taken from our early warships. You may even see the main gun and helm from one of our first ships, RSS Panglima.

Find out more about what makes the Republic of Singapore Navy a modern and integrated maritime fighting force - the naval platforms it possesses and the arsenal that they pack. The young and the young at heart can try their hands at taking out simulated enemy targets with the weapons that the Navy possesses, navigate a ship through the busy Singapore Strait, steer a submarine underwater, or get a glimpse of what it is like to be a commanding officer of a frigate.

The people in our "Navy Family" have been the driving force of the Navy's achievements. See what they wear, the ties they have forged with their foreign counterparts and experience through their eyes the operations that that the Navy participates in. From the protection of our own shores and waters, they have also contributed towards numerous overseas operations such as providing humanitarian assistance during the disastrous Tsunami that hit Aceh, Indonesia in 2004 and countering piracy in the Gulf of Aden since 2009.

Upon entry into the Navy Museum, you will find the display of model submarines and ships of the RSN in a water tank. Amongst them are the Archer-class and Challenger-class Submarines, Formidable-class Frigates, Victory-class Missile Corvette, Fearless-class Patrol Vessel, Bedok-class Mine Counter-Measure Vessel and the Endurance-class Landing Ship Tank. The mural behind the the display is a giant jigsaw puzzle that was done to commemorate the RSN's 41st Anniversary in 2008. This jigsaw puzzle was entered into the Singapore Book of Records as the "Largest number of people completing a jigsaw puzzle".

Early Days

The roots of our Navy began when we first hoisted our naval ensign in 1967 at Telok Ayer Basin. From the opening of our first naval base at Pulau Brani by Mr Lee Kuan Yew back in 1974, to owning our very own first few crafts, RSS Panglima and RSS Bedok. This section represents the birth of our Navy.

RSS Panglima
RSS Panglima

RSS Panglima is one of the first two ships that the Navy had in the early days. The name "Panglima" was the name of an ancient Malay warrior. The 40mm Bofors main gun, wooden helms and the ship bell of RSS Panglima are on display in the Navy Museum. Learn about the five lives of the RSS Panglima and how its legacy is still living on today.

RSN History

The history of the RSN is displayed on a timeline illustrated by descriptions, pictures and videos. The naval ensign was hoisted for the first time at Telok Ayer Basin on 5th May 1967, and that marked the beginning of the Singapore Naval Volunteer Reserve.

In 1975, thousands of "boat people" fleeing the Vietnam War set out for countries in Southeast Asia and Australia in multiple waves of boats. Singapore had neither the space nor resources to accommodate them and the Singapore Navy was tasked to act as a coast guard. Discover how the RSN conducted this operation and the difficulties we faced.

Get on the seat of the old Bofor Gun previously installed onboard the RSS Singapura or go behind the Oerlikon Gun from our old mine sweeper to experience what it feels like to be a naval gunner back in the early days. This gallery showcases the Mine Counter-Measure Vessel (MCMV), the Mine Disposal Vehicle ( MDV) and the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) used to detect mines. Complementing the MCMV in the Mine Disposal Operations are the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD ) divers who are trained to remove the underwater threats.

Naval Logistics

The Naval Logistics provides total logistic support to the Navy by integrating four core business areas in operational logistics, engineering and maintenance, supply chain and base facilities management. The Naval Logistics is responsible for generating combat power for the Navy, so as to achieve and sustain the highest state of logistic readiness, therefore enabling the mission success of the Navy. 

Naval Medical Service

The Navy Medical Service is dedicated to protecting the health and optimizing the performance of RSN personnel. The diving medicine section performs medical assessment and evaluation of SAF personnel for diving and submarine duties. The Navy Medical Service regularly provides humanitarian assistance to regional countries, both during peace time and times of disaster.

The view deck on the second level provides a wide view of outdoor exhibits. They are old guns and weapon system from decommissioned ships such the County-class Landing Ship Tank, Patrol Vessel B-class and Missile Gunboat. There are also models of missile, torpedo and gun that are currently in service.

Operations other than war
Operations other than war

Learn about the various operations handled by the RSN; Operation Flying Eagle was conducted when the Singapore Armed Forces provided Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) to the victims of the Boxing Day Tsunami that hit Aceh, Indonesia in 2004; while Operation Surya Bhaskara Jaya is a socio-civic activity that the Republic of Singapore Navy participates in at the invitation of the Indonesian Navy to provide aid to the villagers from various outlying islands in the Indonesia archipelago; Operation Blue Sapphire is a multinational counter-piracy operation conducted in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard ships transiting through the year; In terms of Peace Support Operation (PSO), the RSN has deployed Endurance-class landing ship tanks to the Northern Arabian Gulf in support of post-war reconstruction of Iraq.

Maritime Security

Learn to appreciate Singapore's position as the maritime hub and the role of the Navy in maritime security operations. Find out how the Maritime Security Task Force work closely with Home Team agencies such as Police Coast Guard, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Maritime and Port Authority and the Singapore Customs to safeguard the Singapore Strait and key offshore installations to ensure maritime security.

The mission of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is to enhance Singapore's peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and to secure a swift and decisive victory over aggressors. To do this, the SAF maintains a professional and capable Army, Navy and Air Force. The key to the SAF's potency lies in its ability to integrate all three services to function as one entity, one system, one SAF.

The Navy Museum Gift shop is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 11am-5pm.

As the museum is located within Changi Naval Base, groups with more than 10 visitors are required to submit a nominal roll at least 7 working days prior to their intended date of visit.

Guided tours are only available for groups of 10 visitors and above.
